Reallocation and efficiency of Vietnamese commercial banks from 2008 to 2018

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to apply DEA window analysis in combination with non-parametric test to examine the efficiency and stability of efficiency ranking of Vietnamese commercial banks from 2008 to 2018, in which M&A deals and the process of reallocation of sources took place very actively. The estimation results of the window analysis model show that the average efficiency under the assumption of constant returns to scale reaches 80-88% while the average efficiency under the assumption of variable returns to scale gains 86 - 91%. The non-parametric test of efficiency ranking shows that some banks have much lower efficiencies than other banks after carrying out M&A deals
